HISTORIC TIMELINE JOURNEY OF H2BE NONPROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION
2014 Denguhlanga Kapilango praying then, actively volunteered at Plymouth United Church of Christ and in her community of Bethel Towers and Townhomes while attending college. During this time, she began laying the early foundation for her being the executive director of what would one day become H2BE—a vision rooted in faith, healing, and generational transformational leadership.
Seeing the Gap: From her lived experience, she witnessed firsthand the lack of community outreach in affordable housing developments. There were no programs addressing food sovereignty, health education, digital literacy, youth mentorship, entrepreneurship, or conflict resolution. She didn’t wait for help—she began building the solution herself.
God-Opened Doors: God opened doors in the form of free space offered by Second Baptist Church of Detroit, Plymouth United Church of Christ, and Bethel Towers Apartments (owned by Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church). These sacred places became seedbeds for H2BE’s first gatherings, workshops, and vision-building.
Divine Xtraordinarians: As she completed a business proposal writing course, she designed a spiritual well being program called Divine Xtraordinarians, targeting at-risk youth, young adults, and their parents. Its purpose was to shift mindsets, renew purpose, and provide practical tools for transformation.
Hip Hop Culture Emergency Bootcamp: From that seed emerged the Hip Hop Culture Emergency Bootcamp—a program rooted in leadership, communication, and social justice through hip hop culture. She produced a printed guide and secured a grant from Second Baptist Church, a partnership that continues to this day.
Senior Technology Ministry: At Plymouth UCC, she launched the Senior Technology Ministry, a hands-on digital literacy program for elders. Many original participants are still connected to H2BE today.
Professional Development (Still Unpaid): Despite working without a salary, Dr. Kapilango God provided additional scholarship opportunties for her to invest in herself:
Co.act Detroit leadership and nonprofit capacity training
Certified in Crisis Fundraising (Lilly Family School of Philanthropy – Indiana University)
Bank of America's Certified in Women’s Entrepreneurship (Cornell University)
Three Master Degrees in Marketing, Business Management, Metaphysical Sciences
Earned her Doctorate in Research and Spiritual Counseling
Became a Certified Urban Gardener to support food sovereignty education through Keep Growing Detroit
Appointed ambassador for Artspace Projects Inc, an economic development and affordable housing initiative promoting artist housing and culture funding
God's Continued Favor: Though still unpaid, Dr. Kapilango contiues to fine innovative ways to keep H2BE growing and God continues to send provision—through favor, funding for programs, and new doors. She walks by faith, not by sight. Every open door has been a testament to divine alignment, not personal gain. Her life is lived in full-time ministry, even within her advocacy, planning, and public programming work.
Official Establishment: On February 13, 2023, H2BE officially gained 501(c)(3) nonprofit status after nearly a decade of grassroots work and divine preparation. From a kitchen table to citywide programs, the journey reflects what happens when obedience meets opportunity.
