Juneteenth 2022 — The Celebration That Built Our Foundation

In 2022, under the leadership of Dr. Denguhlanga Julia Kapilango Divine, H2BE produced a Juneteenth celebration that brought together artists, families, youth, and community leaders across Dearborn and Detroit. More than just an event, it was a movement — blending food sovereignty, music, art, and justice into a living story of remembrance and resilience.

Highlights:

• Cultural Performances & Music — DJs, live musicians, and spoken word artists lifted voices of freedom and hope.

• Food & Community — Local vendors and farmers shared nourishment, affirming food as justice and culture.

• Panels & Conversations — Leaders, educators, and community advocates gathered to discuss equity, history, and healing.

• Youth & Families — Generations came together to learn, celebrate, and build memory.

Legacy & Recognition:

This Juneteenth celebration became a turning point for H2BE. The vision, organization, and impact of the event laid the groundwork for securing our 501(c)(3) federal recognition — making H2BE an officially recognized nonprofit. What began as a celebration of freedom has now become the foundation for ongoing programs in literacy, food sovereignty, cultural arts, and justice.
